Job Description

PCD follows the “Physics First' sequence in the Upper School with students learning conceptual physics in 9th grade, chemistry in 10th, biology in 11th and a variety of science electives in 12th. The Science Teacher is expected to effectively plan and conduct activities for a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and active student engagement that encourages students to observe, question, investigate and problem solve. Faculty at PCD are encouraged to actively participate in the planning and development of their curriculum, course materials and methods of instruction. Our classrooms at PCD are safe spaces for our students where we emphasize mutual respect, inclusivity and positive reinforcement through instruction that effectively engages students with a variety of learning styles.  

Qualified candidates will have a bachelor’s degree (or higher) and will be comfortable using educational and discipline-specific technology. Full participation in the advisory program, active and consistent use of Google Classroom as the primary learning management system, and commitment to on-going education and innovation are required professional standards. Experience in building and guiding student interest in engineering and robotics, including club activities and high school level competitions, would be a plus. In addition to teaching and advising, PCD faculty impact the lives of students through club leadership, coaching, and other extracurricular opportunities.
