Job Description
Are you passionate about helping others? Do you want to make a real, lasting impact while using and improving your skills? This volunteer opportunity allows you to do just that - all from the comfort of your home.
We're seeking dedicated and caring individuals to join our Adult Literacy Program. As a volunteer tutor, you'll have the chance to work one-on-one with adult learners who are eager to improve their literacy skills. You'll be part of a team of diverse, motivated individuals, including current and retired teachers, professionals with years of educational experience, and people new to literacy work. Together, you'll help learners unlock their potential and open new doors to personal growth and opportunity.
What You'll Be Doing:
Tutoring Adult Learners Virtually: Provide one-on-one academic support to an adult learner via Zoom, once a week, for at least three months. Sessions will focus on literacy skills and Adult Basic Education (ABE).
Flexible Schedule: Set your own hours! Choose from weekday or Saturday sessions, available during daytime and early evening. You can select the learners you work with based on your schedule.
Training and Support: Receive 12 hours of self-paced, online tutor training to help you get started. This flexible training can be done at your own pace and at times that work best for you.
What We're Looking For: We value passion, integrity, and a willingness to grow. Our ideal tutor will bring a positive energy to their work, be patient and kind with learners, and possess the curiosity to explore new ways to teach. You'll be comfortable with both virtual tutoring and adapting to a variety of learning styles. Above all, we're looking for people who are committed to making a difference in the lives of adult learners.
Core Qualities We Appreciate:
Passion: Bring positive energy and enthusiasm to every session.
Integrity: Complete background checks and professional tutor training, demonstrating responsibility and trustworthiness.
Curiosity: Always look for new ways to help learners succeed.
Flexibility: Respond calmly to changes, adapting to your learner's needs.
Agency: Take initiative in your teaching and professional development.
Partnership: Commit to working with one learner at a time for at least three months, building a supportive relationship.
Essential Requirements:
Must be 18 years or older
Authorized to work in the U.S.
Comfortable using Zoom for virtual tutoring (including screen sharing)
Willing to complete 12 hours of online, self-paced tutor training
Must have access to a computer and Wi-Fi at home
Must be comfortable working with adult learners, including those with disabilities or learning challenges
Must have a firm grasp of the English language (native English speakers preferred)
Must have a High School Diploma or G.E.D. (proof required)
Why You'll Love This Role:
Work from home: All tutoring is done virtually, offering a flexible work environment.
Flexible hours: Choose your schedule—weekday or Saturday, daytime or early evening.
Personal growth: Gain experience working with a diverse group of learners, improving your teaching skills while making a tangible impact in your community.
Employment Type: Part-Time
Salary: $ 20.00 Per Hour
