Under the general direction and supervision of the Senior Transportation Engineer, District 1 Office of Maintenance Engineering and Minor B's, the incumbent will serve as an engineering technician assisting with the Stormwater Treatment Best Management Practices (TBMP) inspection program. The incumbent collects inspection and inventory data using hand-held computers and Global Positioning System (GPS) survey equipment. The incumbent will work closely with District TBMP Program staff to make TBMP condition ratings and identify possible deficiencies. The incumbent is responsible for performing TBMP inspection activities throughout the district. Review field data collected to ensure accuracy, consistency and quality. Provide quality control of verified field reports into database for submission to the statewide database. Responsible for producing reports and requests resulting from field evaluations. The incumbent may be required to work overtime, work irregular shifts, alternate work schedules including nights, holidays and weekends to respond to emergency situations and calls. Travel is required, incumbent must possess a valid Class C Drivers License.

This position may be eligible for telework. The amount of telework is at the discretion of the Department and based on Caltrans’s evolving telework policy. Caltrans supports telework, recognizing that in-person attendance may be required based on operational needs. Employees are expected to be able to report to their worksites with minimum notification if an urgent need arises. The selected candidate will be required to commute to the headquartered location as needed to meet operational needs. Business travel may be required, and reimbursement considers an employee’s designated headquartered location, primary residence, and may be subject to CalHR regulations or applicable bargaining unit contract provisions.
