KUOW Puget Sound Public Radio is Seattle’s NPR news station. As a self-sustaining service of the University of Washington, our mission is to create and serve a more informed public.

We have an outstanding opportunity for an experienced journalist to serve as Politics Reporter (Reporter 2)to cover politics in Seattle and Western Washington. You will help our audience understand its elected officials and the policies that shape everyday life here, and you will uncover secrets that power players want to keep hidden.

Successful candidates will be comfortable interviewing voters and candidates, but will also be familiar with public records requests and databases. When covering city politics, you will use your broad base of knowledge about the Pacific Northwest to make hyperlocal topics relevant to the station’s broader regional audience. Your writing will enliven any topic and engage casual readers. Collaboration with KUOW’s elections team, talk shows, podcasts, photographers and digital staff are a must. Collaboration with other reporters is encouraged, when politics stories touch beats like environment, race and identities, public health, policing, etc.
