Position Title: Peace Officer
The City of Lancaster Police Department is building an eligibility list for the position of Peace Officer. Candidates will be required to complete the following to move forward in the hiring process:
NTN's Frontline National Exam
Public Safety Self Assessment (PSSA, accessed through your candidate account)
Personal History Questionnaire (PHQ, accessed through your candidate account)
Typing Test (accessed through your candidate account)
, All testing must be completed no later than Monday, March 17, 2025.
EXTRA CREDIT: The following adjustments shall be made to the scores of
applicants on condition that they pass the entry-level examination at 70% or above:
Candidates who have a valid Ohio Peace Officer Training certification, or other state's equivalent will receive additional credit of 30%. Applicant must submit a photocopy of a valid Peace Officer's Certificate at the time of filing.
5% additional credit will be granted to Out-of-State Police Officers with the same conditions as above applying.
10% additional credit will be granted for a job related bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university. Applicant must attach a copy of diploma or transcript.
Any person who has completed service in the uniformed services, who has been honorably discharged from the uniformed services or transferred to the reserve with evidence of satisfactory service, and who is a resident of this state and any member of a reserve component of the armed forces of the United States, including the Ohio national guard, who has completed more than one hundred eighty days of active duty service pursuant to an executive order of the president of the United States or an act of the congress of the United States may file with their application a certificate of service or honorable discharge, and, upon this filing, the person shall receive additional credit of 20%. A person who receives an additional credit under this section shall not receive an additional credit under (5) below
A member in good standing of a reserve component of the armed forces of the United States, including the Ohio National Guard, who successfully completes the member's initial entry-level training, shall receive additional credit of 15%.
To receive the military extra credit, applicants must submit a copy of certificate of honorable discharge or a copy of form DD214 at the time of filing application.
The total amount of credit that may be accumulated may not exceed 40%
Salary Information:
2025: $65, 374.40 - $90,043.20
2026: $68,640.00 - $94,536.00
Benefit Information: Benefits include medical insurance at a cost of $350.86/ month for family coverage and $128.78/ month for single coverage, dental insurance at a cost of $15.60 / month for family coverage and $7.80 / month for single coverage, life insurance at no cost equal to $50,000 per employee and $2,000 per employee spouse and child, and 40 hours of personal
leave.

Additional Requirements:
1. You must be legally qualified to possess a firearm.
2. You must appear for all testing and interviews.
3. You must be able to meet the physical requirements established by the pension fund.
Hiring Process:
The selection process starts with candidates who take this test. The Civil Service Commission will compile the list of eligible candidates and forward those names to the Service Safety Director.
The pre offer phase consists of appearing for an interview with a background investigator, appearing for an oral board, taking a physical fitness test, being fingerprinted for national criminal checks, and taking a polygraph.
The Post Offer phase consists of interviews with the Chief of Police and Service Safety Director, taking a psychological evaluation, and a stress test.
Background Removal Standards:
Applicants can be removed from eligibility for any of the following reasons:
A. Honesty / Falsification
Any intentional falsehood or attempt to conceal pertinent information during the selection process.
Any attempt to distort the truth verification examination results.
Use or attempted use of political influence to alter the selection process or change employment standards in securing employment as a police officer.
Failure to provide copies of requested documents or to complete the personal history statement.
B. Family History
Verified or admitted physical or emotional abuse of a spouse / ex-spouse, former or
current family member, or any person with whom the applicant has or had a relationship.
Failure to provide child support, alimony, or other financial responsibility as determined
by the appropriate court or agency within the past ten (10) years.
Intentional violation of any protective or temporary restraining order as determined by a
court of law within the past ten years.
Verified or admitted sexual abuse of any person.
Any conviction of a domestic violence offense.
C. Employment
Failure to maintain a stable employment history as an adult. Unstable employment is defined as: (But not limited to) patterns of dismissal, job abandonment, and serious workplace disciplinary problems. Accepting and then resigning from an excessive number of positions in the past ten (10) years, without good cause, is evidence of an unstable employment history.
Discharge or resignation in lieu of discipline, or termination, from any criminal justice occupation.
D. Military History
Dishonorable discharge from military service.
General discharge from military service, unless mitigating factors are present.
Convictions or admissions of any article under the Uniform Code Military Justice (U.C.M.J.) that would be equivalent to a felony as defined by the Ohio Revised Code.
E. Traffic
Any conviction for vehicular homicide or assault.
Operating Vehicle Impaired (O.V.I.) conviction within the past five years. No more than one (1) O.V.I. conviction as an adult or juvenile.
Three moving traffic violations within the past twelve (12) months.
Four (4) or more moving violations within the past five (5) years.
At the time of the initial interview, the applicant does not possess a valid driver's license and auto insurance as required by the residence state.
A revocation or suspension of driving privileges as an adult, in effect during the past five (5) years by a court or other appropriate government agency. No more than one (1) suspension in effect as an adult.
Any circumstances that would render the applicant ineligible for coverage under
municipal fleet insurance.
F. Gambling
Conviction of a gambling offense within the past five (5) years.
Admission to gambling that has resulted in financial instability within the past ten (10) years.
Admission or conviction of engaging in promotion of illegal gambling, wherein the applicant gains a financial benefit.
G. Criminal Activity
Any pattern of theft offenses within the past ten (10) years, which cumulatively exceeds $200.00.
Any theft offense as an adult or juvenile that singularly exceeds $200.00.
Any fraudulent insurance, public assistance, workers compensation, or unemployment claims.
Any admission or conviction of an offense defined as a felony by the federal, state, orlocal law where the offense occurred.
Any conviction or admission of an M-1 or M-2 misdemeanor as defined by the federal, state, or local law where the offense occurred within the past ten years. No more than one conviction of an M-1 or M-2 offense.
Any pattern of minor misdemeanor through M-3 offenses.
Any conviction of falsification or its equivalent.
Any pattern of thefts from an employer or during the course of employment.
Any participation or membership in any groups, organizations, or clubs that promote, condone, or commit unlawful acts.
Any admission or verification of an offense of unlawfully carrying a concealed weapon within the past ten (10) years.
H. Substance Abuse
Any use or purchase of illegal drugs within five (5) years before application, or any use after application (Except marijuana).
Any use or purchase of marijuana within one (1) year before application or any use after application.
Any pattern of use of illegal drugs, including marijuana, within the past ten (10) years.
Any admission or verification of trafficking in drugs (Sale or sales).
Abuse of alcohol, chemical solvents / solvent based substances, or prescription drugs.
