The Wisconsin DNR is hiring two (2) LTE (Limited Term Employee) - Wildlife Biologists in Poynette, WI.
Two 6-month seasonal positions are available between roughly September 22, 2025 and April 1, 2026.

Position Summary Play a critical role in supporting the statewide chronic wasting disease (CWD) surveillance program while working in a fun, team-based environment at the DNR CWD Processing Center.
Under the direction of the CWD Processing Center Manager, you will assist in receiving, collecting, prepping and submitting biologic samples from over 17,000 hunter-harvested deer while also managing associated records within one of the country's most extensive CWD database.
Ability to handle biologic tissues, effectively manage large sample submissions, exceptional data entry skills and attention to details, good verbal and written communication skills, time management with limited supervision, and knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office Suite products highly desired.
Position may require a limited amount of evening/weekend hours, and a limited amount of in-state and overnight travel.
50% CWD sample collection and management
• Follow CWD Processing Center set-up/clean-up, equipment maintenance, disinfection, and safety protocols.
• Assist with CWD sampling, aging, shipping, data entry, archiving, and other tasks as assigned.
• Assist in training field staff and/or volunteers on sampling and deer aging
• Provide information on CWD and deer hunting to the public
45% Data management
• Complete CWD data entry, correction, and analysis
• Train and assist others in CWD data entry
• Other data management needs as assigned
5% Wildlife Health Conservation
• Participate in other Wildlife Health activities as directed.
• Participate in CWD Operations Team meetings and Wildlife Health Section meetings.
Salary Information This position pays $19.00 per hour and is in pay schedule and range 15-04. Compensation will be set in accordance with the State Compensation Plan.
Job Details This is a Limited Term Employment (LTE) position and will not automatically lead to permanent state employment or be entitled to the same benefits as permanent employees.

Special Requirements: 1) Residency: To be considered for this position, you must be a resident of the State of Wisconsin.

a. Has established a residence, as defined in s. 6.10(1), in this state not less than 10 days earlier;
b. Has resided in this state for not less than a total of one year out of the immediately preceding 5 years;
c. Is eligible to register to vote in this state; or

Qualifications In addition to the required qualifications below, the selected candidate must be eligible to drive a state vehicle and meet the following criteria:
- Have a valid driver's license
- Be at least 18 years of age
- Have a minimum of two years licensed driving experience
- Have not had three (3) or more moving violations and/or at fault accidents in the past two (2) years
- Have no OWI/DUI violations within the past year
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Ability to work independently, be self-motivated and punctual
- Computer and software skills (MS Office)
- Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers and the public.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Understanding of deer biology and CWD transmission, deer hunting and/or CWD surveillance and management policies
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
- Strong organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills
- Database management experience and skills
