NOTE: Correctional Officer and Correction Probational Officer Certifications DO NOT meet the requirements of the job description.
Special consideration may be given to eligible candidates who have bilingual verbal & written skills that meet a critical need of the agency’s mission.
The Division requires you to live no more than 50 miles from your residence to your assigned duty station (office). The mileage will be determined by geodesic distance (direct line) from their address of resident to the address of their assigned office.
Responses to qualifying questions must be clearly supported by the state application and any omission, falsification, or misrepresentation in the answering of the qualifying questions will be cause for immediate elimination from the selection process.
WHAT IS THE SELECTION PROCESS?
Successful applicants MUST pass not only the Interview but the Physical Abilities Test, Oral and Written Exam, background, drug test, fingerprinting, financial credit report, medical and psychological exam as a condition of employment prior to beginning.

Knowledge and ability to : use current investigative practices and techniques; investigative and surveillance principles and techniques, and the laws governing their use; the criminal justice system.
Ability to: use current investigative practices and techniques; effectively interview and interrogate within the laws governing; recognize, gather, and preserve evidence in accordance with established legal guidelines; prioritize work assignments; work effectively within time constraints; work effectively in dangerous and/or stressful situations, including disaster conditions; operate a motor vehicle safely.
OTHER KSAs (Incumbent may learn on job): Knowledge of: fire behavior, chemistry, and burn patterns; key personnel in the law enforcement, legal, and fire service communities; the Bureau’s Augmented Crime Information Support System (ACISS). Ability to: use the Bureau’s Augmented Crime Information Support System (ACISS); interpret burn patterns and analyze other information to determine the cause and origin of a fire. Skills: Properly document the fire scene using sketching, diagramming, and photography.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES :
If applicable, (Incumbent of position is a member of DFS’ Disaster Response Team and, in that capacity, may be required on short notice to perform duties and necessary attendant travel in support of disaster relief efforts.)
The duties of this position require a constituted law enforcement officer subject to be on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The incumbent is required to bear firearms. The incumbent is required to maintain certification as a Law Enforcement Officer pursuant to Chapter 943, Florida Statutes.
EOD Duties
Conducts extensive fire/explosive scene investigations as assigned to determine or assist in the determination of the origin and cause of the fire/explosion. Prepare and submit accurate reports and documentation as required.
Provide educational programs addressing industry partners and citizen groups. When requested, the incumbent assists other agencies in law enforcement activities resulting from natural disasters and civil disturbances. Establish and maintain liaison with public safety partners and the general public thru public education and training.
Performs disaster related and other assigned duties as required.
THE INCUMBENT OF THIS POSITION IS CONSIDERED TO HAVE REGULATORY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IS SUBJECT TO THE PROVISIONS OF CHAPTER 60L-32.
