TITLE:
Executive Director

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The Executive Director is responsible for the implementation of all programs and services of the Association in accordance with the policies adopted by the voting body of the Board of Directors and by the Membership of the MNA. The salary range for this position is $150,000 – $250,000.

ACCOUNTABILITY:

  • Accountable to the MNA Board of Directors.
  • The Board of Directors will be responsible for the Executive Director evaluation.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. General Management
    1. Establish and maintain the Association’s headquarters and other such offices of the Association as may be deemed necessary.
    2. Provide for independent review of administrative policies or procedures as deemed necessary.
    3. Select and execute contracts for services and supervise the work of consultants to the Association, including legal counsel, financial consultants, actuaries, and such others as may be necessary.
    4. Authorize and ensure appropriate litigation on behalf of the Association.
  2. Personnel Management
    • Solely responsible for selection, employment, and/or termination of all staff. Develop job descriptions, establish standards of performance, and conduct/assign performance evaluations. Assign and coordinate all staff responsibilities.
    • Responsible for negotiation and implementation of all contractual agreements with staff, including any applicable collective bargaining agreements covering staff.
    • Determine all conditions of employment, wages, and benefits of staff.
    • Provide for staff development, including programs and continuing education.
    • Maintain an accurate table of organization with clear lines of communication and responsibility.
  3. Financial Management (in conjunction with the Director of Finance):
    • Administer all Association business, including financial transactions, grants, and execution of contracts.
    • Ensure the timely preparation of Association financial reports, tax returns, annual audit, and other required reports.
    • Ensure that all funds, physical asserts, and other property of the Association are appropriately safeguarded and administered.
    • Prepare the annual budget for approval of the Finance Committee and the Board of Directors.
    • Establish and ensure the maintenance of appropriate fiscal controls.
  4. Program Planning and Implementation
    • Plan implementation of and administer Association programs and policies adopted by the voting body and/or the Board of Directors.
    • Work in conjunction with the Director of Communications and staff on Association publications with the guidance of established Board policy.
    • In consultation with the Board of Directors, establish mechanisms for the review of effectiveness of all programs and divisions.
  5. External Relationships
    • Serve as an official Association representative, along with members and staff, to allied organizations and groups, governmental agencies and bodies, and others with whom the Association has contact. Staff will be designated as appropriate to such groups and members appointed as approved by the Board.
  6. Internal Relationships
    • Provide staff services to the Board of Directors, Executive and Finance Committees and other special committees of the Board of Directors.
    • Recommend policies and procedures to the Board of Directors.
    • Ensure provision of appropriate staff services to the Nominating Committee, Bylaws Committee, and other committees related to the voting body of the Association.
    • Ensure the provision of necessary staff support services for all organizational units, committees, task forces and other Association activities.
  7. Communication and Interpersonal Relations
    • Promote an organizational climate to facilitate effective working relationships with staff, members, and the Board of Directors.
    • Provide the Board of Directors and voting body with information that is sufficient in substance and clear in format so as to assist in the policy setting and decision making functions.
  8. Leadership
    • Serves as a spokesperson for the Association, in coordination with the President of the Association where appropriate.
    • Participate in establishing organization goals and directions in collaboration with the Board of Directors.
    • Sign all collective bargaining unit agreements upon ratification.
    • Work with the Board of Directors to foresee issues, obstacles as well as opportunities to best position the membership and organization to achieve its goals.

Qualifications

  1. Master’s degree preferred.
  2. RN or Health Care Professional licensure preferred, along with active membership in state association as a member or as staff.
  3. Meets the standards of current labor law, i.e., Sections 500 and 504 of Labor Management Reporting and Disclosure Act of 1959, 29 USC section 401-54.
