Job Description

The Lahontan Audubon Society seeks to help restore, preserve, and improve habitat for birds and other wildlife and to provide education about birds and their habitats in Northern Nevada and adjacent areas of California. LAS is an independent, 501 (c) (3), nonprofit organization, founded March 1, 1972. For the past 50 years LAS has been organized and overseen by a volunteer Board of Trustees elected from among its members. Today, LAS has approximately 450 members. The Board of Trustees seeks to retain an Executive Director to help grow the organization and expand the services provided to our community.

Position Description:
The Executive Director (ED) oversees all operations of the Lahontan Audubon Society (LAS). The ED serves as the public face of the LAS and implements actions to fulfill our mission and vision. The ED manages all aspects of the LAS day to day operations including coordinating with the Board of Trustees, supervising staff, including AmeriCorps VISTA members and volunteers, budgeting, and achieving organizational goals. The ED operates under the direction of the LAS Board of Trustees and is directly supervised by the President.

Primary Responsibilities
Reporting to the Board of Trustees, the ED is responsible for the effective leadership, management, and financial health of LAS.
Strategy and Vision:
Collaborate with the Board of Trustees to create, plan and evaluate progress toward goals and objectives.
Create and manage strategic planning and program vision to support short- and long-term goals.
Operations and Support:
Develop, support, and empower an effective team, building strong morale and collaboration between staff, including VISTA members and volunteers through dependable leadership and integrity.
Foster a climate which attracts, retains, and motivates a diversity of top-quality people as staff, VISTA members, and volunteers.
Evaluate, recommend, and implement systems, processes, protocols, and policies that align with LAS values. Ensure inclusive and equitable practices and foster a high-performing culture of accountability and transparency.
Identify tools and implement protocols to ensure timely flow of information and communication across LAS.
Maintain a working knowledge of significant developments and trends in the field to appropriately support and guide the Board of Trustees, VISTA members, and volunteers as well as to ensure appropriate communication with our members and the community.
Coordinate and collaborate as needed with the National Audubon Society (NAS) to ensure mutual goals are attained utilizing all available resources.
Prepare and submit the Annual Report to the NAS.
Manage LASs databases and digital files.
Budget and Finance:
Working with the Treasurer, ensure LAS applies sound financial and administrative practice through effective financial administration strategies, systems, and management.
Work with the Board of Trustees in preparing an annual budget and see that the organization operates within budget guidelines.
In coordination with the Treasurer, provide finance updates to the Board monthly.
Ensure that LAS complies with all financial state and federal regulations and reporting requirements.
Communications and Marketing:
Raise the profile of LAS by actively and effectively representing the organization to volunteers, funders, community leaders, and the community at large and overseeing sound marketing strategies.
Collaborate with the Communications Committee to ensure consistent messaging across platforms.
Consistently advocate in public conversations for birds and their habitats throughout the year.
Fundraising and Earned Income:
Execute a successful fund development strategy, working closely with the Board of Trustees to maintain and increase current levels of giving while identifying new funding sources, especially through building LAS individual donor program.
Represent the LAS in relationship-building with members, individual foundations, corporations, and government sources.

Qualifications:
Bachelor"s degree and 2+ years related professional experience or equivalent
Excellent writing and communication skills
Experience with non-profit financial management and grant reporting
Must pass a background check and hold a valid drivers license

Additionally, youll be a preferred candidate if you:
Have experience in non-profit administration or equivalent
Have experience in volunteer management
Have experience with Google Suite, Weebly, CRMs, Zoom, and/or Facebook Business Suite
Are a successful grant writer and/or fundraiser
Enjoy a deep passion for birds, wildlife, wildlands, conservation, and community education

Reports to: LAS President
Annual Compensation: $40,000 - $50,000
Full-time, exempt (32+ hours per week)
