Job Description: The Category Business Analyst will be the go-to-category expert for developing insightful and actionable customer analysis and selling story presentations. To be successful in this role, one must demonstrate the ability to cut through data to identify what information is most important to the business, so the conclusions are effectively and persuasively communicated.
Key Responsibilities: They Category Business Analyst will collaborate closely with cross-functional partners to analyze industry insights, category trends, and customer point-of-sale (POS) data, translating these findings into actionable tactics to drive sales and profitability. Additionally, they will conduct in-depth customer sales analysis, providing actionable recommendations to fuel sales growth in key areas.
- Retail Sales Operations
- Lead the process of generating content from data analytics that supports customer line review presentations
- Ingest Weekly Vendor Portal Data for auditing purposes where necessary/track some outright segments at retail
- Labor productivity in retail merchandising and operations/warehouse staff
- Support optimal routing/territory coverage for merchandisers
- Provide sales team with ad hoc analytical support that identifies sales opportunities
- Space planning in analysis of overall display, product assortment, sku performance – optimization, productivity, rationalization
- Build strong relationship with retail customer leaders as a trusted category insights advisor
- Create dashboards to analyze the health and support focus of Burpee’s business units – U.S. Retail Sales, eCommerce, Canada
- Better understanding of weather API reporting
- Assist in budget planning including customer forecasting & monthly reconciliation
- Category Insights
- Optimal sell-through by customer based on profitability
- Data reporting – analyze retail sales, cross functional support, and translate it into actionable insights to drive sales
- Category Performance – traditional category metric reporting (category, segment, brand performance, and indexing)
- Consumer Insights – Mine brand and category interaction (market data, etc.), monitor consumer goals and ambitions
- Retailer Insights – Retailer objectives, trends, and category contribution
Position Qualifications: This position requires an understanding of syndicated and consumer data, market research and strategy, industry trend application and knowledge, planogram development and optimization, and a complete understanding of the category management process.
- Minimum of 1-3+ years of experience in Consumer Products; experience in SKU intense or seasonal category preferred
- Bachelor’s Degree Required
- Demonstrated ability to identify both short- and long-range growth opportunities based on sales analyses
- Strong team and interpersonal skills necessary - Develop entry level staff into valuable salespeople
- Excellent people skills and ability to build and maintain relationships
- Flexible and adaptable, able to change and alter according to changes in projects or business environment
- Ability to work independently and prioritize duties with minimal supervision, to meet deadlines
- Strong computer skills including proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook, and web-browsers
- Familiarity using dashboarding software (PowerBI, Qlik, Tableau) and space planning software (JDA, etc.) is preferred.
- Must be able to report to our corporate office in Warminster PA Monday-Friday
