Job Description

Conditions of Employment:

To be considered eligible for appointment into the position, applicants must be available and able to start in the position no later than 09/16/2025.

This position, during the course of university employment will be involved in the receipt of, or accountability for, university funds or other items of value, as well as the unsupervised access with the developmentally disabled, vulnerable adults or children under the age of 16. The offer of employment is contingent upon successful completion and passing of a background check prior to beginning employment.

All new employees must comply with EWU immunization Policy 602-02 and provide proof of immunity or vaccination to MMR before beginning work at EWU . Waivers for the immunization requirements are available for medical or sincerely held religious beliefs.

Job Summary:

The College of Health Science and Public Health Administration at Eastern Washington University invites applications for a tenure track assistant or associate professor faculty position in the Department of Public Health and Health Services Administration to begin September 16, 2025.

Eastern is a regional, comprehensive university where all faculty are expected to demonstrate teaching excellence, professional growth, and service to the university, profession, and the community. The primary teaching area for this position will be public health in the graduate program. An ongoing research program and service to the university, college, and department are also required for tenure-track appointments. Responsibilities in this position include teaching and supervising student internships in community-based organizations.

Additionally, all faculty are expected to actively participate in assessment of student learning and to engage in effective teaching.

The candidate selected for this position will be expected to engage in online learning, pursuit of grants, program assessment, and will be involved in facilitation of accreditation with the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH ).

The Department of Public Health and Health Administration has programs that are housed in Eastern’s residential campus in Cheney, WA and in the Catalyst Building located in the University District in downtown Spokane, WA. The department offers three fully online accelerated format graduate degrees, a Master of Public Health, a Graduate Certificate in Public Health, and a Graduate Certificate in Health Services Administration. The department also offers hybrid undergraduate programs that include: Bachelor of Science in Public Health, Bachelor of Arts in Health Services Administration, a Bachelor of Arts in Health Services Administration-Long Care Option, a Bachelor of Arts in Health Informatics Technology Management, and a minor in Health Services Management.

The college and department prepare students from all populations and communities to help meet the growing market demand in the critical fields of health care and education. The college is home to several nationally accredited undergraduate and graduate programs with an increased focus on inter-professional education (IPE ), and on increasing the diversity of the healthcare fields. As a premier college serving the educational needs of the health care practitioners, CHSPH includes nursing, occupational therapy, physical therapy, communication sciences and disorders, public health and health administration, wellness and movement sciences, dental hygiene, and Regional Initiatives in Dental Education (RIDE ).

The expected salary upon hire is $78,937 (Assistant Professor) and $93,660 (Associate Professor). Required Qualifications:
  • PhD, DrPH, ScD, or MD in Public Health, Epidemiology or associated field;
  • Teaching experience and/or work-related experience in the public health sector;
  • Evidence of scholarly research and/or clear trajectory of research/proposed research;
  • Experience working with students/clients/constituents from a variety of backgrounds and identities, including those historically marginalized in the health sciences and demonstrated ability to apply a culturally responsive and flexible approach that is supportive to the diverse needs, including universal access, of our students, faculty, staff, and the public.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with CEPH accreditation;
  • Evidence of teaching effectiveness, including the ability to effectively create inclusive learning environments with students from diverse and marginalized backgrounds and experiences;
  • Evidence of scholarly research and ongoing research program in public health research exploring public health issues facing the Black and other historically marginalized communities, including collecting, managing, and analyzing technical data; writing finished research and analytic reports; presenting materials in a briefing setting; supporting student research activities in these areas;
  • Teaching and research ability in more than one public health area and/or in other disciplines in the department (health services administration, emergency preparedness, risk management or long-term care) or in the college;
  • Experience with grant activity; and
  • CIC certification from the CBIC .

Job Duties:

A Faculty Activity Plan (FAP) will be developed by the end of the first quarter of the selected candidate’s appointment, and will consist of a combination of teaching, research, service and/or release time to perform administrative duties, as negotiated and as needed to meet the demands of the department.

Typical workload for this position will involve 36 credits per academic year (80% of the workload), subject to department needs.

Teaching also includes the following additional related responsibilities as defined in the faculty CBA:
  • Meet all scheduled classes
  • Plan, organize and inform students of course content, texts, readings, assignments, attendance regulations and methods of evaluation including grading scales
  • Schedule and attend office hours
  • Turn in grades according to established deadlines
